What We Treat

Neck pain treatment in Richardson.

Turning your whole body to change lanes. The headache that starts at the base of your skull by 3pm. It’s fixable, and it starts with a cause-first evaluation, not another pillow.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like you?

  • Turning your shoulders instead of your head to back out of the driveway
  • A headache that starts at the base of your skull and creeps behind one eye by mid-afternoon
  • Waking up locked to one side and knowing the whole day just got harder
  • Pins and needles running into your shoulder blade, arm, or fingers
  • Rolling your shoulders every few minutes on a video call without noticing you’re doing it
  • A third new pillow in the closet that didn’t fix anything either

Two or more? That’s a pattern, not bad luck.

Why It Happens

Your neck isn’t weak. It’s outnumbered.

Your cervical spine holds your head up all day and protects the spinal cord while it does it. That is a lot of work for a small stack of joints. Hours in front of a screen park your head forward, and the muscles at the back of your neck end up holding a load they were never meant to hold for that long. Repetitive movements strain them further. Joints stiffen with arthritis or plain wear. A disc can press on a nerve root, which is why the pain shows up in your arm instead of your neck. Stress quietly tightens everything from your jaw to your shoulder blades. And one bad sleeping position finishes the job.

So the pain is real, but it is rarely where the problem started. A cause-first evaluation checks range of motion, hands-on joint mobility, nerve screening, posture, and how long your neck muscles can actually hold on before they give up. Once you know which of those is driving it, the fix stops being guesswork and the headaches stop being a daily surprise.

The Honest Truth

A stiff neck doesn’t stay a neck problem.

If you keep waiting

  • The tension headaches stop being an occasional thing and start owning your afternoons
  • An irritated nerve turns into numbness, tingling, and a grip that isn’t what it was
  • You lose rotation a few degrees at a time, and your shoulders and upper back start compensating for it

If you start this week

  • You find out whether this is joint, muscle, or nerve, which changes everything about the plan
  • Hands-on treatment starts at that first visit, not after a stack of paperwork
  • Your desk, your monitor, and your pillow get sorted out, so the hours between visits stop undoing the work

You’ve been managing this with ibuprofen and a hot shower because it never felt bad enough to bother anyone about. It doesn’t have to be an emergency to be worth fixing.

How We Fix It

Four phases. Built around your neck.

You work one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit. Here’s what the four phases look like for a neck that has been holding your head up the hard way.

Starts visit one

Pain

Unlock the guarding.

Manual therapy and soft tissue work release the muscles clamped around the joint, and calm the nerve that has been sending signals into your arm.

Once the pain settles

Prime

Get your rotation back.

Joint mobilization and targeted stretching give you back the range you lost, so checking a blind spot stops being a full-body maneuver.

When motion returns

Perform

Build the endurance to hold it.

Deep neck flexor and mid-back strengthening builds the staying power your posture actually runs on. Mobility without endurance is a neck that stiffens up again by Thursday.

Before you’re cleared

Prevent

Fix what caused it in the first place.

Postural retraining, monitor and desk setup, and sleep position, because the eight hours between visits are where necks are made or broken. That’s the endpoint, not another appointment.

Questions, Answered

What people ask before booking for neck pain.

Usually not first. Age-related changes in the cervical spine turn up on scans of people who feel nothing at all, so an image by itself rarely explains why your neck hurts today. The evaluation tells us more: how far you can turn, which joints are stiff to the touch, whether a nerve is irritated, and how your posture loads all of it. If your symptoms point to something that needs imaging, we will say so and help you get it. Waiting on a scan just costs you weeks.

Yes, when it is the right movement at the right dose. Gentle work like chin tucks is a reasonable place to start at home, and holding still all day usually leaves a neck tighter than it was. What we would not recommend is grinding away at a stretch you found online while a nerve is already irritated, because that is how a bad week turns into a bad month. Your evaluation sorts out which movements help your neck and which ones to leave alone, one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit.

A mild strain and a nerve that has been irritated for a year are not the same job, so we will not quote you a number before we have looked at yours. What you get is a plan with an endpoint. Your neck moves through four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, and you always know which phase you are in and what has to happen to clear it. In Texas you can be seen by a licensed physical therapist for up to 30 days without a physician referral, so nothing has to hold up your first visit.
